
Here's an etiquette book reminder from a hundred- plus years ago!
It's advice seems stern for today's sensibilities. (Sitcom writers would be without punch lines!) Nonthelesss, it's still apt for cultivating gracious speech!
"A double entendre is only second in indelicacy to the indecency which grows hilarious over it, since both must recognize the evil intent. A lady or gentleman will always fail to hear that which he or she should not hear."
